Report for The Style Column

With the much anticipated Olympics looming and being held in our very own capital, there is certainly a sporting spirit in the air and the spring summer catwalk and trends are no exception! Luxe sportswear is a key trend this season and you can dress it up or down yet look uber cool and sports chic either way. The easiest way to work this look for the season, and perfect for the gloomy April showers we’re experiencing, is with a hi-tech anorak. DKNY, Victoria Beckham and Kenzo have all reinvented the trusty anorak by combining performance fabrics with very feminine and lady like lines.
However, if you want to go all out then look to the likes of Philip Lim who showed us a pastel collection of loose and insouciant sportswear separates that could be mixed and layered to your hearts content to give of a laid back sporty vibe.
Versus went all out on the sports theme with a basketball court catwalk down which milkshake coloured and zipper detailed jackets, dresses and skirts strutted in a variety of sportswear fabrics. Their unique combination resulted in what appeared to be a cheerleader crossed with a 1920′s flapper due to the heavily pleated skirts and dropped waists.
Though if you’re looking to carry this trend into evening-wear, then look no further than Team GB’s kit designer, Stella McCartney and her mesh panelled dresses. Combined with busy prints and seductive, body hugging silhouettes, the mesh sections of McCartney’s dresses make for very sexy sportswear. Here’s some key sporting pieces that TSC think you should be investing in for Spring Summer.
